PayPal

Take PayPal and card payments from customers around the world on PayPal's own checkout page

What Is PayPal?

PayPal is one of the most widely used ways to pay online, with customers in most countries of the world. Shoppers pay from their PayPal account, which already holds their card or bank details, so they never have to type a card number into your store.

For an online store, PayPal provides a secure payment page: your customer is sent there to pay, then comes straight back to your store. You never handle their card or account details, and you do not need to build anything.

Key Features

  • Customers Around the World: Let shoppers from other countries buy from you with the account they already trust.
  • Pay With a Card Too: Where PayPal offers it, customers can pay with a card on the PayPal page even without a PayPal account.
  • One Click for Returning Shoppers: Customers who are signed in to PayPal pay in a couple of clicks.
  • Many Currencies: PayPal accepts US dollars, euros, pounds and more than twenty other currencies.
  • Refunds from Your Dashboard: Refund an order from Trinavo and the full amount goes back to the customer through PayPal.
  • Test Before You Go Live: PayPal gives every business a free sandbox with test buyers, so you can run through the whole checkout before a real customer sees it.

Built for Selling Abroad

Local gateways serve customers in their own country. When your store sells to visitors, expatriates or customers abroad, PayPal is often the one way to pay they already have and trust.

Adding PayPal next to your local gateways lets every customer choose the way they are used to, which means fewer abandoned carts from international shoppers.

Supported Regions and Currencies

PayPal takes payments in its own list of currencies, including US dollars, euros and pounds. If your store is priced in one of them, customers pay in it. If it is priced in another currency, such as Saudi riyals, UAE dirhams or Egyptian pounds, Trinavo converts the order total to US dollars using your exchange rates before sending the customer to pay.

Integration with Trinavo

Trinavo provides a native integration with PayPal. Your store is ready for it out of the box: there is nothing to install, no developer to hire, and no custom work to commission.

To connect it, create an app in your PayPal developer account, open your payment settings, choose PayPal, and paste the app's details. You can keep sandbox and live details side by side and move between them with a single switch, so you can try the whole flow before going live.

Your store then shows you one web address to add to your PayPal app. PayPal uses it to tell your store about payments, so even a customer who pays and closes the page straight away still gets their order confirmed. The order is confirmed automatically, and every payment appears in your Trinavo dashboard alongside your other gateways.

Security and Compliance

The PayPal page keeps card and account details away from your store entirely, which removes a large part of the compliance burden that would otherwise sit with you.

Before an order is marked as paid, your store collects the payment directly from PayPal and checks that the amount matches the order. The order is only marked paid once PayPal confirms the money was taken, which means nobody can mark an order as paid by tampering with the page they land on. When PayPal holds a payment for review, the order waits and is confirmed by itself once PayPal releases it.

Getting Started

Open a PayPal Business account, then create a sandbox app and a live app in the PayPal developer dashboard. Open payment settings in your Trinavo store, select PayPal, paste your details, add the address your store shows you to your PayPal app, and you are ready to take payments.

If you sell to customers abroad, PayPal gives them a way to pay they already know. Your Trinavo store is already prepared for it, so turning it on is a matter of minutes rather than a project.
