Customer Cart Notes

Watch this tutorial to learn how to: Customer Cart Notes.

Steps in this tutorial

  1. In this tutorial, we will let customers add their own note to each item in the cart, like "three pieces for John". It is a private reminder for the shopper, not a message to the store.
  2. From the sidebar, click on Settings.
  3. Open the Cart settings page.
  4. The Behavior tab holds the cart options. We will turn on customer notes here.
  5. This is the Enable Customer Notes on Cart Items option. It is off by default.
  6. Turn the toggle on.
  7. Click Save to apply the setting.
  8. Now let us visit the storefront and shop as a customer would.
  9. Open a product to add it to the cart.
  10. Add the product to the cart.
  11. Right after adding, the shopper is asked for a note. Let us write who these pieces are for.
  12. Now add the same product again for someone else.
  13. The note box shows what we wrote before. The new note is added underneath, so both are kept together on one cart line.
  14. Let us open the cart to see the result.
  15. The cart line shows both notes together, exactly as the shopper typed them.
  16. The envelope icon lets the shopper reopen and edit the note at any time.
  17. Here the full note opens for editing, with both lines ready to change or save.
  18. Now let us place the order. Click Continue to Checkout.
  19. Fill in the delivery details, then continue.
  20. Continue to the payment step.
  21. Choose Payment on Delivery to place the order.
  22. The order is placed. Let us open it to see the note.
  23. Open the order to view its details.
  24. The personal note is saved on the order too, so the customer can always see who each item was for.
