Item Custom Fields

Watch this tutorial to learn how to: Item Custom Fields.

Steps in this tutorial

  1. In this tutorial we will add custom fields to a product, so a customer can personalize it - like printing their name and logo on a mug.
  2. Open the Modules panel - it holds every tool, including custom fields.
  3. In the Modules panel, open Item User Fields - this is where custom fields for products live.
  4. This is the custom fields page. It is empty, so let us add the fields our mug needs.
  5. Click New to add the first field.
  6. First, choose the product - our printed mug.
  7. The first field is a text field for the name the customer wants printed.
  8. Save the field.
  9. The second field is a date for the preferred delivery date.
  10. We set its type to Date.
  11. Save the field.
  12. The third field is a file for the logo the customer wants on the mug.
  13. We set its type to File so the customer can upload an image.
  14. And we allow images only.
  15. Save the field.
  16. Our mug now has three custom fields: a name, a delivery date, and a logo.
  17. On the product page, the customer sees the three fields under Extra Information.
  18. The customer types the name to print on the mug.
  19. Picks a preferred delivery date.
  20. And uploads the logo image to be printed.
  21. The logo is uploaded and ready.
  22. With the name, date, and logo set, add the mug to the cart.
  23. The cart already shows the name, date, and logo next to the mug.
  24. Continue to checkout.
  25. We fill in the delivery details.
  26. Then place the order.
  27. The order is placed.
  28. Open the menu and go to My Orders.
  29. Open the order from the customer orders list.
  30. The order details show the name and delivery date the customer entered.
  31. And the uploaded logo appears as a thumbnail the customer can open.
  32. Now back in the admin, let us open the same order.
  33. From the side menu, open Orders.
  34. Open the order from the admin orders list.
  35. Open the mug item to see its custom fields.
  36. The admin order view lists the name and delivery date under Custom Fields.
  37. And the uploaded logo is available right here for your team to print.
  38. Open the Modules panel - it holds every tool, including custom fields.
  39. In the Modules panel, open Category User Fields to do the same for a whole category.
  40. And that is it. You can add these same custom fields to a whole category, so every product in it gets them automatically.
