Receive Stock

Watch this tutorial to learn how to: Receive Stock.

Steps in this tutorial

  1. A delivery has arrived from your supplier. Recording it is what puts the stock in and tells your store what it cost.
  2. Open Modules and go to Purchasing.
  3. Open the Purchasing group.
  4. Click Goods Receipts.
  5. A goods receipt is your record of what actually arrived, and at what price.
  6. Click Receive Goods.
  7. Choose who the delivery came from.
  8. The date the goods actually reached you. The reference is filled in for you.
  9. The delivery now has a document of its own, numbered for you, so you can quote it back to the supplier.
  10. Now list what was in the box.
  11. Now the products. Search for the one that arrived.
  12. How many units arrived.
  13. And what you paid for one unit. This is the number your profit reports have been missing.
  14. Save the receipt. It is still a draft, so nothing has moved yet.
  15. Posting the receipt is what actually adds the products to your stock.
  16. You are told plainly what happens next: a posted receipt cannot be changed afterwards.
  17. Done. The stock is in, and the receipt is now part of your history.
  18. Let us check what changed. Open Inventory Management.
  19. Open the Inventory group.
  20. Click Inventory Management.
  21. Search for the product you just received.
  22. There it is. The units you received are now in stock, and nobody had to type the number by hand.
  23. Click the product name to open it.
  24. The cost lives on the Pricing and Inventory tab.
  25. And on the product itself, the cost is now what you actually paid. Receive it again at a different price and this becomes the average of the two.
